Is This America?

In 1964, Fannie Lou Hamer stood before the Credentials Committee at the Democratic National Convention and asked a question that shook the nation: “Is this America?” As a co-founder of the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party, she challenged a system that denied Black Americans their right to vote and their seat at the table. Her testimony was so powerful that President Johnson called an emergency press conference just to pull cameras away. They couldn’t silence her then. They can’t silence her now.

This tee honors Fannie Lou Hamer — sharecropper, activist, and one of the most fearless voices in American history.
