They Refused the Deadly Order.

In 1944, 50 Black Navy sailors at Port Chicago, California refused to load ammunition after a catastrophic explosion killed 320 men — most of them Black enlisted men forced into dangerous duty without proper training. Freddie Meeks and his fellow sailors were court-martialed for mutiny. They were fighting for safety, dignity, and their lives. Their stand helped ignite the desegregation of the U.S. military.

This tee honors the Port Chicago 50 — men who said enough, even when it cost them everything.
