They Silenced the Press. Not the Truth.

In 1898, Alexander Manly ran The Daily Record — the only Black-owned daily newspaper in the United States. When white supremacists launched a violent coup in Wilmington, North Carolina, they burned his press to the ground and overthrew the elected government. It was the only successful coup d’état in American history. They tried to erase the truth. They failed.
