In 1967, Robin Gregory made history by becoming the first natural-hair homecoming queen at Howard University in Washington, D.C. — a bold act of Black pride that ignited a student movement. Her election was a declaration: Black is beautiful, Black education matters, and the campus would no longer conform to Eurocentric standards. The Howard Student Power movement that followed demanded Black studies, student voice, and institutional change.
